“The stadium is finished and ready to play in. We now need to proceed with the formal and administrative processes… We will be returning home soon, but I can’t specify when as it depends on the permits we need from the authorities,” Laporta was quoted by Diario El Pais. His comments highlight the impact of local government approvals on the renovation delays.
In response, the local City Council—according to Diario El Pais—emphasizes that their priority is to ensure the project meets all regulations, particularly regarding safety standards. They noted that some stadium aspects might not be fully prepared for large events and urged caution about any announced return dates.
Report: Barcelona may miss Champions League matches at Camp Nou
Due to ongoing renovation delays, Barcelona hasn’t received permission to play at Camp Nou. As per Diario Sport, the team intends to host its first home game in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League at Montjuic Stadium. This decision effectively eliminates the chance of holding any Champions League matches at Camp Nou this season.
According to UEFA rules, “From the league phase onward, a club must generally play all its matches in the competition at the same stadium. Any stadium changes between the play-offs and the league phase must be agreed upon with UEFA in advance.” Thus, if FC Barcelona plays against PSG at Montjuic, they would not be able to return to Camp Nou for Champions League games unless the venue becomes unusable due to unforeseen circumstances.
