USM Alger Takes First Leg Victory in CAF Confederation Cup Final

USM Alger triumphed over Zamalek SC in a thrilling first leg of the 2025-2026 CAF Confederation Cup final at the 5 July 1962 Stadium. The match, filled with intense action, kept fans on the edge of their seats as both teams battled fiercely until the final moments.

While Zamalek appeared to have clinched a late goal, the VAR system intervened, confirming a handball in their penalty area. This led the referee to disallow the goal and award a penalty to USM Alger. In a decisive moment, Zamalek defender Mahmoud Bentayg was shown a red card.

Ahmed Khalil stepped up to convert the penalty in the 98th minute, sealing a dramatic victory for the home side. This outcome positions USM Alger favorably as they aim for the CAF Confederation Cup title.

The second leg of the final is set to take place on 16 May in Cairo.
