UEFA Confirms Possibility of Seven Premier League Teams in UCL
UEFA has announced that the team finishing seventh in the Premier League this season may qualify for the 2026–27 Champions League.
This season, England had six teams in the Champions League, a record for a single country.
The increase in league places for co-efficient ranking and Tottenham’s performance in the Europa League, which allows the winner to enter the next season’s Champions League, enabled six English teams to compete in 2025-26.
However, UEFA has now stated that the seventh-placed team in the Premier League could gain entry, depending on how far other English teams progress in European competitions.
Seven English teams could qualify if the following occurs:
- Aston Villa wins the Europa League and finishes 5th or 6th in the Premier League
- Liverpool wins the Champions League and finishes 5th or 6th in the Premier League.
Currently, Brentford would benefit under these conditions, as they sit in seventh place in the Premier League.
