Top English Scorers in the Premier League This Season
Thomas Tuchel has many choices for the World Cup, but has the England manager made a mistake with March’s squad?
The Three Lions will face Uruguay and Japan in friendlies this month, but the leading English scorer in the Premier League is not part of the squad. In fact, three of the six top-scoring English players in the Premier League have been left out.
Top English Scorers in the Premier League This Season
Morgan Rogers – Aston Villa (8)
The Aston Villa midfielder has been selected and is competing for England’s number ten position. With fellow contenders Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Cole Palmer dealing with form and fitness issues, Rogers may now be the frontrunner.
Jarrod Bowen – West Ham (8)
Jarrod Bowen aims to make an impact this month, filling a wide role where Tuchel has plenty of options. Bowen has scored eight league goals and provided six assists for West Ham, but has had limited England chances because of Bukayo Saka. He has started only seven of his 20 caps.

Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa (9)
Ollie Watkins was notably absent from the March squad announcement. The Aston Villa forward scored a memorable winner against the Netherlands at Euro 2024 but has been inconsistent this season. A recent goal against West Ham might help him respond to his exclusion.

Cole Palmer – Chelsea (9)
Cole Palmer’s season has been affected by injuries. Despite this, he has scored nine goals in 18 league starts, though 55% have come from penalties.
Morgan Gibbs-White (9)
Another player left out of March’s squad, Morgan Gibbs-White, is working to prove he deserves a spot. He scored against Spurs recently, making it nine goals for the Premier League season, with six in his last 12 matches.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – Leeds (10)
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s strong performances at Leeds have earned him a return to the England squad. His last cap was in July 2021, and after a nearly five-year absence, he’s back, having scored over 10 Premier League goals this season for the first time since 2020-21.

Danny Welbeck – Brighton (12)
The top English scorer in the Premier League is not in the squad this month. Danny Welbeck has had an impressive season at Brighton, scoring 12 goals, his highest tally in the Premier League, at age 35.

Interestingly, Welbeck had never scored more than nine goals in a Premier League season until last year. He has a solid record for England too, with 16 goals in 42 appearances, although he has not played since 2018.
