Last night’s UEFA Champions League match left some viewers unimpressed, particularly former professional player Thierry Henry, who expressed strong opinions about the game’s quality.
During a post-match discussion, the legendary striker, known for his tenure at Arsenal, Barcelona, and Juventus, criticized the match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Bayern Munich, which ended in a high-scoring 5-4 victory for PSG. Henry stated that the match did not embody the essence of Champions League football.
According to Henry, the encounter resembled street football rather than a prestigious semi-final. He remarked,
“You can’t call it great football just because there were nine goals. It didn’t look like a Champions League semi-final; it looked like street football. I don’t need a 5-4 scoreline; I want a 1-0 game where the defense actually defends. It may be spectacular, but the essence of the game is in control, discipline, and collective responsibility. This is a bit like TikTok football: everyone is chasing moments, flashy highlights, and numbers.”
The second leg of the semi-final between Bayern and PSG is scheduled to take place on May 6 at the Allianz Arena.
PSG vs Bayern Munich semi-final becomes the highest scoring in Champions League history.
