Sebastien Desabre: Dreaming Big for the Democratic Republic of Congo at the World Cup

The French coach highlighted the Leopards’ desire to leave a mark on the global stage.

Qualification is just the beginning, says Sebastien Desabre. He believes his team has a good chance with the new format, which allows the best third-placed teams to progress to the round of 32. Desabre remains optimistic, knowing the high level of competition in this worldwide tournament.

We’ve successfully passed the initial hurdle by qualifying. However, we can’t be satisfied with just that. When gearing up for an international tournament, we aim to achieve results. With eight teams able to qualify for the round of 32 through the best third-placed teams rule, we have our opportunities. Nothing is set in stone. We want to perform well, and advancing from the first round seems entirely feasible. Competing in a World Cup means facing elite teams, but it also requires ambition.

DR Congo makes its return to the World Cup after a 52-year break. The Leopards are placed in Group K with Portugal, Colombia, and Uzbekistan.
