Real Madrid’s Shake-Up: Alonso Set to Release Five Players

Details: Reports indicate that Real Madrid‘s head coach Xabi Alonso lacks confidence in several players previously favored by former manager Carlo Ancelotti. This includes Andriy Lunin, Raul Asensio, Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos, and David Alaba.

Raul Asensio’s role has reduced as younger players like Rodrygo and Brahim emerge, along with the flexibility of other attackers.

Dani Ceballos presents a unique case. Under Ancelotti, he was valued for adding energy to the midfield, but his search for a new club and mixed performances have led Alonso to reconsider his contributions. While he has a distinct style, that doesn’t assure him a regular spot in the team.

David Alaba’s position is more troubling. Once a key player due to his adaptability in defense, he is now the fifth-choice center-back after Éder Militão’s return and the acquisition of Heisen. The club attempted to facilitate his transfer this summer but was unsuccessful.

Andriy Lunin seems to have firmly lost his place in the squad. In past seasons, he was crucial due to Courtois’ injuries, but the Ukrainian goalkeeper now finds himself as a backup, with limited chances to play unless an emergency arises.

Ferland Mendy’s situation is somewhat different. The French defender continues to deal with fitness issues. The club’s patience is diminishing, and his future with Real Madrid looks uncertain unless he can return to peak form.

Recall: Manchester City expressed interest in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold, but Los Blancos quickly declined.
