The Portuguese manager, Pedro Gonçalves, was sacked on Wednesday, despite his team’s recent victory over KMC. His departure comes just six months after he took on the role.
Initial reports indicated that Gonçalves was set to be dismissed following a 2-2 draw in a derby match against Simba SC. However, the club management chose to give him one final opportunity to prove himself.
Despite the Young Africans securing a win against KMC on May 6, the decision to terminate Gonçalves’s contract was made immediately after the match. This unexpected move highlights the club’s shift in direction.
At the time of his dismissal, Pedro Gonçalves was leading Young Africans at the top of the Tanzanian league with 51 points. Under his guidance, the club achieved an impressive scoring record of 47 goals while conceding only 5 in 21 matches this season.
