Nigeria’s Falconets Reach 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with 3-2 Aggregate Victory Over Malawi

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national football team, the Falconets, has secured their spot in the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup following a 3-2 aggregate victory over Malawi in the qualifying round. The team successfully navigated a challenging two-leg matchup against the Malawi women’s national under-20 football team.

The Falconets entered the second leg with a comfortable 2-0 lead from the first encounter in Nigeria. However, the return match held at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe proved to be a tough contest as Malawi aimed to overturn the deficit.

Malawi’s Faith Chimzimu ignited hopes for the hosts by scoring twice, in the 9th and 56th minutes, which brought the aggregate score to 2-2. The pressure mounted on Nigeria as Malawi equalized on aggregate.

In a pivotal moment, Oscar Precious netted a goal for Nigeria in the 62nd minute, quickly re-establishing their lead in the contest. Despite losing 2-1 on the night, Nigeria’s aggregate performance ensured their progression to the World Cup.
