Mainoo Chooses International Move Over Premier League Loan

Kobbie Mainoo is looking to move abroad rather than go on loan in the Premier League if he leaves Manchester United in January.

Mainoo’s future at Manchester United is uncertain as he seeks more first-team opportunities.

The 20-year-old wanted to go on loan during the summer, but the move was blocked. He has played only 183 minutes in the Premier League and has yet to start a league match this season.

Several Premier League clubs are monitoring him as he aims for a temporary move to boost his career.

Mainoo remains hopeful of joining the England squad for the World Cup, having previously contributed to the team that reached the Euro 2024 final. He has not played for England in 15 months.

Despite interest from Premier League clubs, Mainoo reportedly favors a loan abroad, with Napoli showing interest.

According to journalist Laurie Whitewell, any decision regarding Mainoo’s future is likely to be delayed until after the Africa Cup of Nations, where several United players, including Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, are participating.

“I believe that nothing will be settled until after AFCON,” Whitewell said. “United will evaluate how that goes, even if Mainoo wants to play more regularly. Ultimately, the decision lies with the club, and clarity should emerge later in January.”

“Napoli showed interest last summer, and I feel he would prefer a move abroad if the opportunity arises.”
