Liverpool’s Manager Slot Supports Salah During Goal Drought
Arne Slot has expressed confidence in Mohamed Salah overcoming his recent goal drought with Liverpool.
Salah has not scored in his last nine Premier League matches, marking the longest stretch without a goal since he joined the club in 2017.
This season, the Egyptian’s performance has come under scrutiny as he has not matched the level of his previous PFA Player of the Year campaign.
As Liverpool prepares to face West Ham this weekend, Slot mentioned that Salah’s high expectations are partly to blame for the criticism he faces and noted that other Liverpool forwards are also struggling to find the net.
“He has set such high standards that when he goes a few games without scoring, people are surprised, which is a testament to his abilities,” the Dutchman stated in a media briefing on Friday.
“Just three games ago, he had a goal and an assist against Brighton, a solid team in the FA Cup. That’s the reality. While stats may show no goals in nine league games, that’s the benchmark he has established.
“We’re accustomed to [Salah] scoring frequently, and that’s the key difference in his current performance.
“But it’s not just him; other attackers like Hugo [Ekitike] and Cody [Gakpo] have also seen a dip in goals. This is a team issue. Fortunately, our defense is solid, which means we don’t need to score as many.”
