Ivory Coast U20 Women’s Team and Benin Share Spoils in First Leg Match
The Elephants and the Amazons will have to wait for the second leg to determine the winner of the final round of African qualifiers for the World Cup in Poland. The two U20 women’s teams faced off on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe.
The Ivory Coast side opened the scoring with Nda Nadege netting the first goal in the 29th minute, putting her team ahead 1-0. However, the Beninese opponents quickly responded, with R. Gandonou leveling the match at 1-1. The score would remain unchanged until the final whistle.
The two teams are set to meet again in a few days in Lomé, Togo, for the return leg of the qualifiers. The winner of this match will secure a spot at the 2026 U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
