Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo is set to miss at least six weeks of action due to a knee injury, raising concerns about her availability for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026.
AFC Toronto, her club, confirmed that Okoronkwo sustained a meniscus injury during a recent match against Halifax. The injury occurred in-game and has been assessed, with medical reports suggesting a recovery timeline of approximately six weeks.
The timing of the injury is particularly critical, as the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 16, 2026. Depending on her progress during rehabilitation, Okoronkwo may face a race against time to achieve full fitness in advance of the tournament.
