Al Ahly may skip CAF Confederation Cup if it doesn’t qualify for Champions League

Al Ahly, the Egyptian giants, have expressed concerns regarding their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup if they conclude their season in third place in the Egyptian Premier League. The club reportedly views this competition as not on par with its established prestige.

This season, Al Ahly is currently struggling in the league and sits in third position, as the season is set to conclude on May 20. This performance raises the possibility of the team missing out on the 2026–2027 Champions League, as only the top two Egyptian clubs can secure spots in the prestigious tournament.

According to journalist Mohamed Shabana, the Red Devils are contemplating not entering the Confederation Cup under these circumstances. Instead, reports suggest that they would participate in the African Football League if the CAF reintroduces it.
